THE GOLDEN YEARS

All I do these drawn-out days
is sit in my kitchen at Pheasant Ridge
where there are no pheasants to be seen
and last time I looked, no ridge.

Sure, I could drive over to Quail Falls
and spend the day there playing bridge,
but the lack of a falls and the absence of quail
would only remind me of Pheasant Ridge.

I know a widow at Fox Run
and another with a condo at Smokey Ledge.
One of them smokes, and neither can run,
so I'll stick to the pledge I made to Midge.

Who frightened the fox and bulldozed the ledge?
I ask in my kitchen at Pheasant Ridge.

REGARDING MY LAST POST: I'M NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOW TOMORROW NIGHT ANYMORE NOW/SEE YOU SUNDAY: CHANGARRITO EN SU CASA???????????????????????????

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Changarrito En Su Casa

Unveiling: Sunday, July 20, 5-10 PM

Open Hours: July 21 - July 25, 8-10 PM Daily

Closing: Sunday, July 27, 5-10 PM

Behind Mexico City's National Palace, the streets resemble an Aztec Calcutta: a mass market where vending meets its climax. Thoroughfares are packed with bodies weaving between shopping carts and hand built stands. Some merchandise is sold illegally and often times ready to be packed up and moved at a moments notice. Deigned "informal commerce", these markets have become a phenomenon of extraordinary dimensions, with a growth rate of more than 10% annually. On average, three million people occupy the streets a few days a week in different parts of the city.

Argentine artist Maximo Gonzalez became an avid observer of this cultural and economic phenomenon. Since 2003 he has kept a register of the different physical possibilities of these vending stands with sketches and photographs. The arrays of stands are almost as ample as the products they sell, and in most cases the nature of the product on sale determines the form of the stand.

During ARCO'05 (Arte Contemporaneo Madrid), Gonzalez consolidated his two year study, and constructed the first art "cart" titled the Changarrito. Through the Changarrito Gonzalez managed to bring the embodiment of the Mexican market to Madrid, filling it with work by more than 70 artists. Gonzales pushed the Changarrito amongst throngs of people, boisterously challenging the elite to look beyond the commercial gallery. Reflecting the panorama of art and society in constant mutation, the Changarrito became a space for every ideology, political tendency and aesthetic taste.

On July 20th Co-Lab unveils the Austin incarnation of the Changarrito. After a successful debut at Fuse Box festival 2008, the Changarrito became a venue for local artists to show new work, and art collectors to find emerging talent. The Austin Changarrito will reside permanently at Co-Lab, allowing artists to continually show their work within a community-oriented framework. Paired with appearances at local events, the Austin Changarrito will continually allow artists to break out of the traditional gallery model where art is more accessible, experimental and open to a larger audience.

JOGGERS/DAYS OF BEING WILD/BED OF ROSES

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW
JOGGERS
ALBUM. I DON'T KNOW WHEN ITS COMING OUT, THEY'RE RECORDING IT THIS SUMMER. BUT ITS GOING TO GO DOWN IN HISTORY (IN A GOOD WAY).

AND ALSO THERES THIS NEW AUSTIN BAND THAT JUST FORMED AND THEYRE RECORDING SOME PRETTY AMAZING STUFF RIGHT NOW. ITS STILL IN THE EARLY STAGES, I GOT TO HEAR SOME ROUGH MIXES.

THEY NEED A BAND NAME, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS LEAVE A COMMENT AND I'LL PASS IT ON.

MARTIN CRANE/BRAZOS'S "BED OF ROSES" IS WHAT I'M LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW.

I WANT TO GET THE NEW SLEEP GOOD.

THIS WAS THE 37TH IMAGE THAT CAME UP WHEN I LARGE IMAGE SEARCHED TOM WAITS GLITTER DOOM

SET LIST

THE MOST OBNOXIOUS CROWD I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED AT A SHOW (HONESTLY!!), BAD VENUE, HE HAD THE A.C. TURNED OFF (WHICH, KNOWING THAT NOW I THINK ITS REALLY "COOL" BUT AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST BROKEN AND WAS REALLY ANNOYED, IT NEEDED TO BE ABOUT 20 DB'S LOUDER/IT FELT LIKE WATERED-DOWN TOM WAITS-LITE, I WOULD HAVE PREFERED A DIRTIER/ROWDIER BAND.

OTHER THAN THAT A GREAT SHOW.

from the home page of our website:

Frankenbike #34 - Saturday Noon-4pm June 14th at the 51st Street Shop - We are hosting a Frankenbike at our 51st street shop in it's final weeks of operation. We are trying to make as many bikes rideable as possible to sell at the austin-notorious roaming bicycle parts swap meet. Funds generated for YBP bike and parts sales will help with construction costs for our new headquarters facility. Stop by any scheduled shop night to volunteer and help build up bikes for the sale.

And from the Bikes page of the website:

Ready to Ride Bikes - If you don't have time to volunteer or build your own bike, we have a limited supply of ready-to-ride bikes available at both of our shop locations. YBP volunteers have fixed up these bikes and prepared them for you to ride away. We ask for cash donations in exchange for ready-to-ride bikes. Proceeds are used to support our project and maintain our shop

We'll have bikes available for very reasonable donation amounts, some even in the $10-$20 range at the sale on the 14th. After that, we won't have many bikes available till we get our new shop headquarters built, so don't miss the big sale -

BARTER WITH BRAZOS

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

MARTIN CRANE IS IN A BAND CALLED BRAZOS. HE POSTED A BULLETIN ON THE BRAZOS MYSPACE OFFERING THIS:

hey i just put up this other new
song
.

all this new stuff i wrote last month, and it's best to listen to outside by yourself, and it's still on my mind as if, yes, this is me today right now, not in the realm of the past yet, so i want to share it with people but in a genuine way, and i want to get something meaningful back in return, handmade. i've been posting this stuff on the craigslist barter section for a few weeks around the country. some people have gotten back to me before the posts get removed.

now i try myspace. there's more songs, too, and to check out the whole thing, you should send me a message and i'll give you my address. send me something of interest to you or something you've made or a letter or whatever. just make it handmade or wear it down with your hands. i can go first if you want.

I USED A NEW TECHNIQUE I'M CALLING *LUNG ART*.

I USE MY BREATH/LUNGS AS A TOOL AND BLOW ON WET INK.

I ALSO USED AN OVERHEAD PROJECTOR AND TOOK FROM CURLED UP WIRE TO PAINT THE LINES, FORM.
